Modeling and Field Research at JBLE Langley for NuGlobal Solutions

Virginia Tech Coastal Collaborator Center conducted research to create Climate change scenario modeling and field data collection for locations on JBLE Langley Air Force Base.

Virginia Tech Coastal Collaborator Center conducted research to create Climate change scenario modeling and field data collection for locations on JBLE Langley Air Force Base. JBLE Langley is located in Hampton, Virginia which faces issues of sea level rise due to climate change. Coastal hazards pose a threat to the mission readiness of JBLE Langley. This threat makes modeling the effects of sea level rise at different scenarios a critical endeavor. Additionally, sensor data collected from sensors placed at strategic locations on the base will inform decision making related to sea level rise. Virginia Tech students provided useful visualization and data collection in support of NuGlobal’s larger project.

Questions explored:

1. How do different scenarios of sea level rise, rainfall, and storm surge demonstrate potential impact to JBLE Langley?

2. What levels of wave inundation are currently occurring on the coast of JBLE Langley and how are they impacted by offshore pilot testing?

This project is made possible through a grant from NuGlobal Solutions LLC, a Department of Defense Contractor.
